Back to Tweseldown with the novices and the star of the day was CHF Cooliser (Eliza) who started out her competition year just as she finished last year… with a “cool” attitude and showing masses of ability. A 32 and a double clear were good enough for 7th spot and another point to add to her collection and a happy rider.
The Magician (Mars) is one of my favorite horses but he is quite the jack the lad and has a high opinion of himself! He has talent to burn and finds it all so easy that his attention wanders sometimes so his debut for 2017 of a 32, a couple of poles and a green 20 cross country doesnt really showcase his good points! He would certainly be one that would need his first run under his belt before he got down to work but he will soon be picking up the prizes for sure.
Splash of the Irish (Dennis) had a horrible end to his 2016 season when he crashed and burned at Osberton after a great dressage test. Tom ran him in the open novice and with Tweseldown’s well built track it was a great way to give him his confidence back and start the new event year in a positive way. Dennis is a talented young horse and its always hard to have to end a good year with a fall when you have to wait 6 months before you can get back out there again. Tom will have cross country schooled him several times but nothing really mimics a competition atmosphere so it was good to get that under his belt.
