Pau XC

Perfect weather for cross country day with sunshine and a pleasant 21 degrees with a slight breeze, ground conditions pretty much the best they have ever been at Pau and sone seriously classy horses heading out on course for the one and only 5 star of the weird season that has been 2020.

Tom had time to watch the first 10 combinations go and he set out with Toledo de Kerser with a bit of knowledge about the course and clearly one of the classiest horses in the field. Toledo was bit dismissive of the fences until he got on the racecourse where they grew in size and as Tom said afterwards, “I would have preferred Burghley!” but he showed all of his ability to come home clear, easily under time and with none of the tearaway romps home of his youth.  It its rare to find a horse with such scope that you pray for a Burghley track but `Toledo sure is one of them.  He treated todays tricky and technical track like a schooling round and he has moved up into 6th spot, a dangerous less than a rail off third behind team mates Laura Collett and Piggy French.

Pau is notorious for its huge and wide showjumping and there will be no one better mounted than Tom tomorrow. The jog has moved to 1.30 pm which is a nice surprise when the clocks also go back but there will only be one 5 star winner crowned in 2020 and its all for the taking.
