Diesel (Charlie) came back to compettion with a run in the Eventers Grand Prix at Hickstead and it certainly looked as though he was delighted to be out again. Tom had a great debut here last year on Cuarento and although Charlie was perhaps a little more experienced he got quite unruly once or twice as his enthusiasm took over!
Two rails down left Tom a little off the pace but as always it was great fun and Tom rode brilliantly to give it a real crack. Charlie showed he has lost none of his scope and bravery and looked pretty pleased with himself at the finish.
The class was not without incident as always and some good names found themselves at the mercy of the tricky fences. half of the Devil’s Dyke (jumped backwards in this class), the shallower side of the Hickstead Ban, the Irish Bank and the deep narrow water all conspired to make it a tough challenge. No doubt Tom will be back next year with his eye on a bit more prize money!
